Liverpool have been tracking giant 6 foot 4 defensive midfielder for a year

da cassino online: Liverpool are among a "host of clubs" interested in signing an exciting young midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Liverpool transfer news

da apostebet: The Reds have had a frustratingly quiet summer in the transfer market, with not a single player added to Arne Slot's squad, much to the chagrin of many supporters. It looked as though Martin Zubimendi was going to come in as a superb midfield addition, but he has ended up committing his future to Real Sociedad, acting as a big disappointment at Anfield.

Time is now running out for Liverpool to make signings this summer, but they are at least still being backed to make some important additions to the squad. Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is one such figure, potentially being seen as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

Wolves player Rayan Ait-Nouri

Meanwhile, the Reds are reportedly among the clubs who have been offered legendary Italian midfielder Marco Verratti, but given his age and the type of player Slot likes, in terms of an ability to press and cover ground, it would be a huge surprise if he sealed a move to Anfield.

Liverpool also appear to be pushing hard for the signing of Valencia and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who could be seen as the heir to Alisson between the sticks. The 23-year-old may be loaned out immediately, in order to be a regular elsewhere, before eventually coming in as first-choice.

Liverpool in the race to sign midfielder

Writing on X, Bailey claimed that Liverpool are in the mix to sign young Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl this summer, but are far from alone in tracking him.

In Bailey's report for HITC, he goes on to say that the 18-year-old's 6 foot 4 frame "makes him stand-out as he features in central midfield but can also play a holding role", adding that Liverpool "have been aware of Hjerto-Dahl for more than 12-months". The likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham, Everton, Fulham, Sheffield United and Coventry City are "all watching him".

Even the most knowledgeable Reds supporter could be forgiven for not having heard of the teenage midfielder, but it is always encouraging to see highly-rated young players linked with moves to Anfield. Hjerto-Dahl has already won 17 caps for Norway across four different youth age groups, suggesting that he has been a prominent international performer throughout his fledgling career to date.

Not only that, but he now already has 44 appearances to his name for Tromso, despite his tender years, scoring eight goals and registering two assists in the process. To have made such an impact already says so much about his maturity and ability, and Slot could view him as one for the future if Liverpool get a deal over the line.

Contact made: Wolves looking to repeat Joao Gomes masterclass

Wolverhampton Wanderers will kick off their preseason tour fixtures on Saturday ahead of the new Premier League season. They will be hoping to improve on their impressive 14th-place finish during the 2023/24 campaign, which saw them end up just three points behind Crystal Palace in tenth and a top-half finish.

Gary O’Neil’s side will play three preseason games during their tour of the United States of America, as well as one game at Molineux. Firstly, they will face Premier League rivals West Ham to start their preseason. That is the club they recently sold their former captain Max Kilman to, for a fee of £40m.

Max Kilman for Wolves

Their second game in the USA will see them face another Premier League side, in the form of Oliver Glasner’s Palace. Their tour of the States comes to a close with a game against RB Leipzig before Wolves close things out with a game at Molineux. The Midlands club are set to host Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano, the weekend before their top-flight opener against Arsenal.

There is no doubt that Wolves need to strengthen their squad this summer, in order to push for a top-half finish next season. Preseason could be the ideal time to bed in one rumoured new signing.

Wolves target South American winger

The player in question here is young Paraguayan winger Gabriel Aguayo. The 19-year-old has impressed during his short time in the first-team fold at his club Cerro Porteno, and has now been linked with a move away this summer.

According to journalist Angel Elian, the player’s agent, Jani Delmas, confirmed that there have already been contacts made with the Midlands side. Elian explained that Delmas claims there “is a following from Wolves” as well as sides in Brazil and Argentina, countries famed for turning talents from South America into household names across the world.

This quote from Delmas is consistent with a report from Express reporter Charlie Gordon this week, who claims that the Molineux club have been 'keeping tabs' on the young winger, theorising that boss O’Neil would 'naturally welcome' a signing such as Aguayo.

In terms of a price, Aguayo is thought to cost around £3m this summer, if a deal is to go through. However, it remains to be seen if Wolves will make a bid or not.

How Aguayo can replicate Joao Gomes

At just 19 years of age, there is much to be excited about when looking at Aguayo. During his first season in professional football, he put up some impressive numbers, grabbing one goal and registering four assists in 13 games for Cerro Porteno, in just 748 minutes.

He largely operated on the right wing, although did play once as a centre-forward. However, all of his goal involvements came from the right-hand side, which is his natural position and where we can expect him to feature for Wolves.

Should the Molineux side bring Aguayo to the club this summer, he could have a similar impact at the club to Joao Gomes. Like the potential deal for the 19-year-old Paraguayan, Gomes was brought in on a 'cheap' deal from South America, for just £15m from Brazilian side Flamengo.

Pedro Neto and Joao Gomes

He has since gone on to be a key player under O’Neil and was a crucial element of his side’s exploits in the Premier League last season – now subsequently coveting interest amid reports of a £50m price tag.

Wolves’ past success at bringing in a youngster from South America could certainly encourage them to repeat the masterstroke if they decide to go ahead and sign Aguayo. They have already signed Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, a Brazilian second-division side, for £8.5m this summer.

Given how easily Gomes has settled in at Molineux, signing Aguayo could be too good of a deal for the Midlands club to turn down. It would be a shrewd piece of business given their track record and the fact he is available for just £3m.

Nottinghamshire get home by two wickets after Liam Patterson-White's 5 for 19

“I helped build that ground,” said the taxi-driver, “Leastways I helped smooth the outfield and bloody stony it was, too. That’s over thirty years ago now and they tell me it’s settled down nicely. The old field used to be next to the football pitch and was slap in the middle of town but the Buckminster Estate sold it off to Sainsburys and gave the cricket club land out of town. Mind you, there’s a lovely view over the Vale of Belvoir and you can sometimes see Belvoir Castle.”So there is and so, apparently, you can. Fittingly enough I’d only been in Grantham five minutes before being reminded of the power of the market economy. But places transcend the imprint of even their most famous daughters and Gorse Lane certainly deserved what became a day in the sun. Two years ago Nottinghamshire hosted Durham here only to the extent of turning up and watching torrential wash the game away. Covid-19 took care of the two matches scheduled in 2020 so this was fourth time lucky for the ground on the hill.Perhaps it was fourth time lucky for many of the spectators who ringed this field, sometimes six-deep, and if so, they also deserved what became a climax to cherish when Dane Paterson thrashed Ben Sanderson for a straight six to secure the two-wicket win that ends Northamptonshire’s interest in the Royal London Cup but leaves Nottinghamshire to battle for a qualification place on Thursday.Six runs were needed off three balls when Paterson got out the long handle but there had been many other times in the previous half-hour or so when nerves had informed the shot selection of a Nottinghamshire side whose bright-badged caps and fresh faces betray the inexperience of youth. As wickets were lost and dot balls surrendered to the Steelbacks’ three spinners it seemed probable that the match would hinge, unfairly perhaps, on the moments earlier in the game when Ben Slater swung Tom Taylor to James Sales at deep square leg and Ben Compton was bowled round his legs by Saif Zaib.Taylor had made 53 and Compton 71. Notts were 154 for three in the 39th over and needed another 57 runs when the second of those vital wickets fell. It hardly required much insight to conclude that his team had wanted Compton to take them home. Once he and Slater were gone they needed Brett Hutton’s big six off Zaib and 19 runs from a Sunderland-born bowling all-rounder whose 22 years make him almost an old pro in the current Notts dressing room. For yes, if this was a day Grantham CC will always treasure, it will surely also be one on which Liam Patterson-White revealed his wide-ranging ability to affect cricket matches. And it has not always been thus…When Patterson-White made his Nottinghamshire debut against Somerset two seasons and a world ago he was so ill on the first day of the game that he took no part in it. Once recovered, he followed a four-ball nought with a five-wicket return but could not prevent his team losing by 132 runs in a season that ended, so we thought, with their relegation. One or two things have happened since those blissful afternoons in Taunton. Most notably for our present purpose, Patterson-White has taken another 32 first-class wickets and 13 in List A cricket, the last five of which came at a cost of 19 runs this afternoon at Grantham, where the pitch was plainly not averse to turning.Northamptonshire were 112 for 3 in the 22nd over when Patterson-White came on at the Gorse Lane End. By the time he had completed an accurate ten-over spell replete with subtle changes of flight and pace, the visitors were 175 for eight and it needed some shrewd batting from Sanderson and Sales to see them struggle to 210. The slow left-armer was assisted by two factors: the first was a surface that offered help; the second was the presence at the Pavilion End of another slow-left-armer Fateh Singh, who conceded only 33 runs from ten overs in his third List A game. Between them the two spinners constricted the flow of runs that had seemed so free, first when Emilio Gay was batting and later when Luke Procter was making 44, his side’s top score. But the batters were complicit, too: Gay slashed Tom Barber to Slater at deep point and Procter swept Patterson-White straight to Paterson at square leg. Even on a frisky wicket, just the sort of surface that should be used for more List A games, the Steelbacks’ total was perhaps 25 light. It was a deficiency that returned to hurt them. The crowd appreciated it all, of course. We had hardly got beyond the first Powerplay before the festival atmosphere that outground cricket so often engenders was present at Grantham. The pylons beyond Wyville Road may be dull and one could also manage without the growl of traffic on the A1, yet when all these irksome assaults have been considered Gorse Lane remains a lovely home of cricket, a club in which its members obviously take great pride. They will have planned hard and worked long for this day and, as so often, the cricket did not let them down, Nottinghamshire should need no urging to return here and Liam Patterson-White may be especially keen to do so.

Luke Shaw suffers another injury 'setback' at Man Utd as Erik ten Hag's bleak final update on full-back comes to light

Manchester United have been hit with another injury blow as it has emerged Luke Shaw has suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf problem.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Shaw has endured a nightmare 2024 on the injury front and has not played for Manchester United since February. The left-back did play three times for England at Euro 2024 but was then subsequently ruled out of the start of the Premier League season with a calf injury. Shaw had been expected back in October but it has now emerged that the England defender is still some way off a comeback after suffering another setback in his recovery. Erik ten Hag offered a bleak update on the defender before he was sacked by Manchester United after defeat to West Ham.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Ten Hag said: "The process is not going as we expected. That's the truth. The setback, if you want to call it like this, we want also to do it very careful. When he is now dropping again, we want to be very careful. We know his past, we have to do this right, because we want him to be available, because he will have a big impact on our performances and also on our levels. We can't have him playing for some games and then drop out again. So, we will do it very carefully."

  • Getty

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Shaw's injury problems have already angered fans who called for United to rip up his contract back in August. Club legend Peter Schmeichel has also been critical of Shaw for "not prioritising" his club side after seeing him play at the Euros and then be sidelined once more. Manchester United have been plagued by injury issues throughout Ten Hag's time in charge, with the Dutchman having complained such problems were "holding back" his team after another disappointing start to the season.

  • Getty

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD

Manchester United will have to continue without Shaw for the foreseeable future with Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez having all filled in at left-back this season. Yet the England star will be eager to return to action soon and try to impress United's next manager. Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken interim charge after Ten Hag's departure, while Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is the current favourite to be appointed the next permanent Manchester United boss.

Their Secret German: Arsenal draw up plans to sign "world-class" Saka rival

We are over a month into the transfer window, and while it's often referred to as silly season thanks to the outrageous rumours and surprising moves that occur, not much has happened regarding Arsenal.

However, there was an element of intrigue just a couple of weeks ago when it was reported that the Premier League runners-up were working to sign a 'secret German.'

However, it was radio silence in the days that followed, but that might've just changed.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Recent reports have now claimed that the Gunners are drawing up plans for a specific German international this summer, and he might be the ideal rival for Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal's secret German

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Arsenal are interested in Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané.

samuel-iling-junior-leroy-sane-tottenham-opinion

The report claims that while the German behemoths are not actively looking to sell the 28-year-old this window, they would be tempted by offers exceeding £40m, partly due to the money they have already spent on rebuilding their squad this summer.

It's claimed that the player would also be open to the move if an attractive contract were offered, and given the time he spent with Mikel Arteta at Manchester City, this could be the perfect reunion, and it would make sense if he were the 'secret German' spoken about earlier this month.

While it wouldn't be cheap to sign Sane, his track record is impressive, and it's hard to think of a better player to rival Saka, even if he ends up becoming a backup.

Why Sane would be a great signing

Now, the first thing to say is that if this deal goes through and Sane is brought in to primarily play off the right – where he has for most of his career – then he'd likely be seen as Saka's backup at worst and a rival at best, but that's not a bad thing for Arsenal as a club.

The Hale End superstar is the poster boy of this modern Gunners side, and with 226 senior appearances under his belt at just 22 years old, it would be outrageous if he was permanently dropped for the German.

Still, with the club being in so many competitions next season, there will be plenty of opportunities for rotation.

Moreover, while the Bayern ace struggled at points during the Euros this summer, failing to produce a goal or assist, he enjoyed a relatively successful individual campaign last season, racking up ten goals and 13 assists in 42 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 1.82 games.

This might not quite match the Ealing-born star's haul of 20 goals and 14 assists in 47 games, but it's certainly an impressive effort and shows he's of the level to step in when needed.

Additionally, when the "world-class" winger, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, played in England's top flight, he racked up 25 goals and 29 assists in 90 trophy-laden appearances, which equates to a goal involvement on average every 1.66 games.

Ultimately, while Sane might not start every game for Arsenal, having him as the rival to Saka on the right would make Arteta's squad so much stronger going into next season and could even prove to be the last little piece needed to bring the title to North London for the first time in over two decades.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is now very close to sealing his first signing of the summer, in a forward who could reportedly leave for half of his release clause.

Midfield and further forward are two areas that the north Londoners are keen to address this summer, with engine room ace Thomas Partey looking likely to depart Arsenal amid rumoured talks with Saudi Arabia.

They'll need a midfield replacement for the Ghana international, as Arsenal look to bring in both his heir and an alternative to star man Declan Rice in the midfield. Arteta could also sign a new attacker or two to bolster their forward line, despite Arsenal scoring over 90 goals in the Premier League alone last season.

Kai Havertz dazzled in a makeshift centre-forward role under the Spaniard last season, with Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka also leading the way in terms of goals scored. However, it is believed Arteta personally wants a young striker to partner Havertz going forward.

Arsenal were in the race to sign RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko for the role, and made a proposal to sign the Slovenia international before he opted to sign a new deal at his current club instead.

Now, they're targeting alternative strikers they could do a deal for, and one is believed to be Sporting Lisbon sensation Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede, who bagged a head-turning 43 goals and 15 assists in all competitions last season, averaging one every 97 minutes, is attracting attention across Europe as a result.

There's an £86 million release clause in his contract, but respected Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport recently claimed that Sporting could actually sell Gyokeres for in and around £42 million – as there is a belief the player will be very tempted if some of the continent's biggest clubs come calling.

Arsenal "very close" to signing Viktor Gyokeres

As per Portuguese news outlet Leonino, Arteta's side are doing "everything they can" to seal a move for the striker. They add that Arsenal are actually "very close" to signing Gyokeres, with the deal only being held up by financial details as things stand.

If the 26-year-old does put pen to paper, it could be one of the coups of the summer, with Tony Mowbray having also highlighted Gyokeres' physical attributes as another plus point: “(He) is too fast, too strong and too big."

"You would suggest Haaland is like that and Gyokeres in this league looks a yard faster and stronger than the players he plays against in the Championship. The way he buys himself space to shoot is pretty impressive and Coventry did well to hold onto him, he looks a really talented boy.”

Rangers now considering approach for 42y/o record-breaker to replace Stewart

The 49ers and Rangers are now reportedly considering an approach to hire a 42-year-old replacement for Patrick Stewart, who they recently sacked.

Rangers sack Thelwell and Stewart

Despite a recent turnaround on the pitch courtesy of Danny Rohl’s arrival, the 49ers have remained in ruthless mood and recently sacked chief executive Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell. It follows a disastrous summer of decisions, which instantly failed to get fans at Ibrox onside.

Explaining the decision, Andrew Cavenagh said: “Paraag and I have analysed the club’s needs, and as we reflect on what the club needs today, and where Kevin and Patrick are, we think we need something different.

“Our focus the first part of this season, the first part of our ownership period, has been on the sporting side and that’s where all of our attention went to for obvious reasons.

“With Danny coming in, he has started to improve the on-pitch performance, and that has created the space to allow Paraag and I to look at other parts of the club with new eyes and assess what we need going forward.

“I think responsible change has to be measured. I don’t think you can come in and tear something completely apart all at once. You’re likely to get something wrong.”

It’s certainly a big decision from the 49ers, but one that will please Rangers fans who particularly aired their frustrations at Thelwell in recent months.

Just who they turn to now is the big question. Potential candidates are already being mentioned, and that includes James Taylor who reportedly has internal support at the club amid a potential promotion.

Rangers considering James Taylor approach

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are now considering an approach to hire Taylor in the CEO role. The 42-year-old has already impressed as their Chief Financial Officer and played a huge part in recording a record revenue of £94m for the year. Now, he could get the chance to step up to the CEO role.

Not just Djiga: Thelwell flop who lost ball 17x looks finished at Rangers

Rangers’ wait for a first Europa League victory goes on, held to a 1-1 draw by Braga at Ibrox, and a summer signing was just as bad as Nasser Djiga.

Whilst he’s not the only name on the list, Ibrox chiefs are reportedly fans of Taylor and that will undoubtedly help him along the way in the interview process.

It almost goes without saying that it would be a big step up for the current Rangers chief, but he has more than proven his worth at the club in the last year.

Whether the Gers decide to make a decision as soon as possible or remain patient for the right candidate is the question. In a season of so much change, they desperately need to get things in order ahead of the January transfer window both on and off the pitch.

Berta has signed a "monster" for Arsenal who is Arteta's new Lewis-Skelly

The international break is something of a blessing and a curse for Arsenal.

On the one hand, it gives the club respite from their current injury crisis, but on the other, they have to wait two weeks to make amends for the draw away to Sunderland.

However, even though they saw their lead cut on Sunday evening, Mikel Arteta’s side are in a great spot in the Premier League.

Moreover, despite injuries, the side is full to bursting with talent, including one player who’s starting to look like another Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The latest on Lewis-Skelly's future at Arsenal

It would be fair to say that, aside from their run in the Champions League, last season was something of a disappointment for Arsenal.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

However, there were at least a couple of positives to come from it, such as the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly.

The latter was more of a surprise to most, and yet over the course of the campaign, he became a far more significant part of the side, effectively becoming Arteta’s first-choice left-back.

In fact, by the end of the season, the 19-year-old had made 39 first-team appearances, totalling 2306 minutes, and even made his full debut for England, during which he scored.

However, so far this season has been a totally different story for the youngster, as while he has still made 12 appearances, only four of those have been starts, and overall, he has played just 463 minutes of action.

During the last international break, Thomas Tuchel said that this lack of game time could result in him not picking the Islington-born ace.

Unfortunately, that’s what’s happened this international break.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to reports that other Premier League clubs are now interested in signing the youngster in the winter transfer window.

However, the same reports make it clear that Arteta and Co are keen to keep the Hale Ender at the club, and that they expect him to play more minutes as the season progresses.

With that said, if Arsenal do decide to cash in, they do have another youngster in the side who is showing shades of Lewis-Skelly in his game.

Arsenal's new Lewis-Skelly

Even though Riccardo Calafiori and Pieiro Hincapie are his competition at left-back, the Arsenal player who is showing shades of Lewis-Skelly in his game this season is Cristhian Mosquera.

Now, that might sound like a leap to begin with, but “similarly to Lewis-Skelly,” per analyst Ben Mattinson, the Spaniard has shown an immense level of “physical maturity for his age.”

More than that, though, the 21-year-old has also shown a remarkable mental maturity, which was on full display when he came on and played almost the whole game away to Liverpool, and then started the club’s opening Champions League game against Athletic Bilbao.

While he may have been described as a “monster” by Gunners insider Hand of Arsenal, where most young defenders would need their hand held by a senior teammate or go crashing into ridiculous challenges, the former Valencia gem is thoughtful about when he goes in for a tackle or block.

However, that’s not to say he is adverse to the more physical side of the game, as, just like Lewis-Skelly, he is someone who “loves to battle with physical attackers,” according to Mattinson.

Moreover, while most fans and pundits alike expected the exciting youngster to play a minor role this season, the Valencia-born titan is following in the Hale Ender’s footsteps from last season and playing a far more significant role than most predicted.

For example, he has already made 12 appearances, five of which have been starts, totalling 597 minutes.

Finally, like the Englishman, he is not solely limited to playing a single position, as in addition to playing at centre-back, he can do a job at right-back.

Ultimately, there are some differences between them, but in terms of mentality, raw ability, and attitude, there are plenty of similarities between Mosquera and Lewis-Skelly.

After Dowman: Hale End has given Arsenal a future star who's "like Vieira"

The incredible prospect could be another Max Dowman-style star for Arsenal.
