Martin must now unleash Southampton machine who won 100% duels vs Boro

da casino: Southampton won't want to dwell on their draw with Middlesbrough on Good Friday too much, with a hunger to respond immediately to that 1-1 match when travelling away to take on Kieran McKenna's title-chasing Ipswich Town.

da cassino online: The Saints might well find themselves out of reach of those Championship automatic promotion spots now – being nine points off Leeds United in second – but they can still have a say in the complexion of the ongoing race if they topple the Tractor Boys at Portman Road later today.

Russell Martin could look to drop Che Adams after his poor showing last time out against Michael Carrick's Boro for the away day in Suffolk, the former Birmingham City man way off the pace up top.

Southampton striker Che Adams.

Che Adams' performance vs Middlesbrough in numbers

Going without a goal in his last two Championship games as the lone Saints centre-forward, it could well be time for the Scotland international to sit out the action at Ipswich.

The misfiring Southampton number ten would end up missing two big chances in the 1-1 draw with Boro, with the hosts wasteful overall when a victory could have seen them make some strides to leap back into the top two picture.

che-adams-southampton-championship

The 5 foot 9 attacker would only end up amassing 23 touches away from his many shots attempted at Seny Dieng's net, with his partner going forward in Adam Armstrong nearly doubling that amount with 41 next to his name.

The experienced former Newcastle United man also managed to find the back of the net in the contest, exposing Adams' off-day even further.

Armstrong's cooly taken opportunity could see Martin stick him in the striker spot over Adams, with the Saints boss often playing the experienced attacker down the right wing recently.

Yet, with Adams' torrid time of it against Boro resulting in him making just 12 accurate passes alongside firing blanks, a rejig could now be necessary.

The right-wing spot could then be taken up by David Brooks subsequently, who already has two goals and three assists next to his name from just nine Saints appearances on loan.

A reshuffle of personnel might even see Martin throw Ryan Fraser back into his XI for the trip to Ipswich, the Magpies loanee impressing from off the bench late on against Carrick's men.

Ryan Fraser's performance vs Middlesbrough in numbers

Fraser could come into the Saints lineup and take Sulemana's left wing spot potentially, with the exciting Saints left winger showing flashes of his excellence with two attempted dribbles but he was still hauled off by Martin on the 63rd minute.

His replacement in Fraser would shine in his place, leading to a selection headache for Martin to address today.

Ryan Fraser for Southampton.

Fraser would come away from his 27-minute spell on the St Mary's turf with a 100% pass accuracy still intact, on top of winning all three ground duels he launched himself into.

Hailed as being a "brilliant" asset for the Saints earlier this year by his manager, Martin will be delighted he has Fraser back in his selection plans for upcoming Championship matches after the Scotsman had found himself frequently in the St Mary's treatment room.

He could well even break back into the first team for the clash with Ipswich later on, whilst Adams is given a potential breather after failing to leave a lasting impact against Boro.

Jamaica Tallawahs 'weirdest' team I've ever played for – Andre Russell

Allrounder says CPL 2020 will be his last season with the franchise

Nagraj Gollapudi29-Apr-2020

Jamaica Tallawahs captain Andre Russell chats with coaches Mark O’Donnell and Ramnaresh Sarwan during training•Peter Della Penna

A day after Chris Gayle lashed out at the Jamaica Tallawahs management, his West Indies team-mate Andre Russell has called the franchise the “weirdest” he has ever played for. On Tuesday, a day before he turned 32, Russell also announced that the 2020 CPL season would be his last one with the Tallawahs, who had signed him in 2018 after he returned from his anti-doping ban.ALSO READ: Gayle blames Sarwan for Tallawahs exitOn Monday, Gayle blamed Tallawahs’ chief executive officer Jeff Miller and assistant coach Ramnaresh Sarwan for influencing the owner Kris Persaud to release him for the 2020 season. In a statement on Wednesday, the franchise said Gayle’s release was “strictly a business and cricketing” decision taken collectively by the leadership group that did not include Sarwan.Sarwan not behind Gayle ouster – Tallawahs

Jamaica Tallawahs have dismissed Chris Gayle’s claims that Ramnaresh Sarwan was behind his ouster from his home franchise ahead of CPL 2020. In an outburst, released in a personal video on YouTube on Monday, Gayle also blamed Tallawahs’ chief executive officer Jeff Miller and owner Krish Persaud for “playing a game” with him.
“The ownership and management of the Jamaica Tallawahs was disappointed to see the comments made by Mr Christopher Gayle about his departure from the Tallawahs, as we would much rather have had these discussions in private,” a statement from the Tallawahs franchise said.”Mr Gayle gave several reasons for the decision that was made not to retain him in the Tallawahs. However, the truth is that this decision was made collectively by the ownership and management team, which did not include Mr Ramnaresh Sarwan, and based purely on business and cricketing reasoning.”
The Tallwahs clarified that they had let go of Gayle to rebuild for the upcoming season, having finished last in 2019.
“The Tallawahs had a very disappointing season in CPL 2019, where the team finished last in the tournament. The ownership and management team has exercised its rights in the selection of players for CPL 2020 for the betterment of the team. The ownership and management of the Tallawahs will not be making any further comment on this matter as we are focusing on building the team for the future.”

‘Unprofessionalism in this team is all about communication’
If Gayle’s ire was targeted at Miller and Sarwan primarily, Russell took a deeper view, saying the franchise suffered from “unprofessionalism”, lacking transparent communication. In CPL 2018, Russell returned to captain the Tallawahs, a development he said was “very, very good for his image”. However, he found the management’s ways of doing things odd. Before the 2018 players’ draft, Russell shared a list of names – Caribbean and overseas – he would want in the squad.”I’m a guy that play to win,” Russell said on his Instagram on Tuesday. “And I’ve won 13 championships [T20 titles]. So, I don’t play to lose. If I’m picking a friend I believe in that friend. But the way Tallawahs went about things, that first, they went in in the draft, on the day of the draft, I was trying to reach out to these people. No reply.”Russell said his intention was to “clear the air”. “During the draft still tried to reach out to these guys. No reply. After the draft they messaged me and asked me if I was happy with the team picked. I took a while to reply because I was disappointed.”Russell said the Tallawahs “did pick a good team” which lost to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Eliminator. However, Russell claimed things were no better in 2019 season. “This year was different. This is the weirdest franchise that I have ever played in. And when I mean weird, people that [are] supposed to reach out to you as an individual, and I am not just a normal player in the Jamaica Tallawahs team – I was once a leader. I realise how they look at things and how they do things.”In the five matches that Russell featured in the 2019 season, his returns were underwhelming: 99 runs with six wickets. Injury then sidelined him from the rest of the CPL,where the Tallawahs finished bottom in the six-team league.Russell also said he was hurt at being “treated” as a debutant and he was “not involved in anything whatsoever” with regards to the franchise’s plans. “I felt like a first-class player that just made his debut one game ago. Your opinion is not valuable. That’s how I was treated.”Even this year, Miller had only contacted Russell to check whether he was going to sign the contract in order for the franchise to retain him. Russell said he continued to be “kept in the dark” when he asked questions. “Even when I ask questions: who you guys planning on retaining? Who you guys planning on buying? I don’t get no answer on that. So, I just leave it.”Russell said he was happy to take a “pay cut” to stay with the Tallawahs only to play in front of his “home crowd, my family and friends.” He said several other franchises in CPL were ready to pay him more than what the Tallawahs were paying him. But for Russell, “loyalty” was important.According to Russell, the Tallwahs as a franchise has to address “unprofessionalism” in the ways the management has gone about doing things. “Addressing unprofessionalism in this team is all about communication.”To illustrate his point Russell provided two examples. The first was when Floyd Reifer, who was the interim head coach of West Indies at the 2019 World Cup, messaged Russell to inform he was potentially going to take over a similar role at the Tallawahs, replacing the incumbent Donovan Miller. According to Russell, Reifer also spoke to him about his front-foot position, while bowling, which was landing in an “awkward” fashion and putting pressure on his knee ligaments. However, soon after, Russell claimed Reifer “suddenly stopped communicating”.Russell tried asking Miller, but he did not say anything. Around this time, Russell heard rumours about Gayle moving to St Lucia Zouks. By then, he had signed the contract to stay with the Tallawahs. At the same point, Russell said Gayle messaged him a picture of a newspaper article, asking Russell if he had any information on his release. Russell said he had no clue. He called Gayle “instantly” and told him Reifer was “potentially” going to be the coach. “Communication was the problem, right throughout. No one say anything to Chris. No one say anything to me.”Russell felt Reifer did not want him to be captain of the side. “All of these things happened because of Floyd Reifer gonna be the coach. He don’t want to have me as the captain because he wants to have someone he can actually talk to. Rovman Powell and Floyd Reifer have a good relationship and I respect that.”Andre Russell captained Jamaica Tallawahs in 2018•Getty Images

‘Don’t come and offer me captaincy again’
Russell said he would continue to perform for the team regardless. “I’m a free spirit player. If I’m not the captain I’m fine, I’m happy,” he said. “The communication was the biggest problem when it comes to all of this. Up till now, I don’t know nothing that is going on. I don’t know nothing that was happening in the Jamaica Tallawahs team. And now it looks like me, Rovman, Floyd Reifer plan up, and I get rid of Chris. Why would I get rid of Chris? Chris have a three-year contract with Tallawahs. You’re not supposed to breach a contract. As a franchise you can get in trouble with that.”Russell said that although he would continue to support Powell, he would not take over the leadership role in case the franchise approached him now. “All these guys have my number, no-one messages me. I’m not here to fight and say that I want to be the captain because at the end of the day, if I wasn’t Tallawahs’ first choice to be the captain, don’t come and offer me the captaincy again. I’m not going to accept it.”Russell said he felt “weird” clearing his throat on his social media account, but was left with no choice; otherwise he felt like he had been pushed “under the bus” and his head would be crushed if it moved backward or forward. But Russell was firm about not staying back at the Tallawahs once his contract expires in 2020.”I think this might be my last season for Jamaica Tallawahs. I’m just clearing the air,” he said. “I’ve another year’s contract [left] with the Tallawahs [2020 season]. I’m going to play and try and win because that’s all I play for, but this will be my last, because I’ve been getting mixed up with all this shit that is happening, and I can’t be playing cricket and I’m not comfortable. I think another franchise that has been coming last and fifth and fourth will appreciate me more [which] I am not getting it here. Honestly, I feel messed up about the whole situation.”

Corberan drops Bartley in predicted West Brom lineup vs Rotherham

da apostaganha: West Bromwich Albion have faltered in their last few league matches as the season begins to draw to a close, but recent disappointing results still haven't culminated in the West Midlands outfit slipping out of the Championship top six.

da brdice: The Baggies will still fancy their chances in the playoffs if they get there – secure in fifth position currently – even with three draws on the trot ridding Carlos Corberan's men of that longed-for winning feeling.

The draws piling up high could see the Spaniard experiment with his starting XI when Rotherham United come to town tomorrow night, knowing that the Millers are already relegated and look certain to finish right at the bottom of the division.

As a result, first-team faces such as Kyle Bartley could find their position filled by someone fresher tomorrow amidst two changes from the side that drew 2-2 to Stoke City last time out…

1 GK – Alex Palmer

West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Alex Palmer will find his spot in-between the sticks is still set in stone for tomorrow night's clash, despite the Baggies number one leaking five goals in his last three Championship starts.

Still, without his goalkeeping heroics against Stoke last game – with the 27-year-old making five saves in total – Steven Schumacher's men could have walked away with the win.

2 RB – Pipa

The first change from the side that ended up stumbling to a 2-2 draw on the road versus the Potters could see Darnell Furlong drop out of the side, having underwhelmed throughout.

Pipa looks likely to be the immediate replacement for Furlong if Corberan decides to axe his settled right-back for the test of Rotherham, despite the Spanish defender not featuring for the Baggies since the middle of March.

Furlong's poor showing could demand such an alteration however, with the West Brom number two – who has been praised as being "workmanlike" in the past by football journalist Joseph Chapman – winning zero duels in total and squandering possession 14 times in the action-packed contest.

3 CB – Semi Ajayi

West Brom defender Semi Ajayi.

Another change to the usual back four Corberan picks might well see Kyle Bartley dropped for Semi Ajayi to have a run-out, with the ex-Leeds United defender experiencing an equally torrid afternoon at Stoke.

The West Brom number five would also fail to win a single duel in the back-and-forth affair, alongside registering no tackles at all in the 2-2 draw.

Ajayi could be preferred therefore back at the Hawthorns, with the Nigerian centre-back successfully launching himself into three duels in the Watford draw prior to the underwhelming Stoke away day.

4 CB – Cedric Kipre

There were question marks surrounding the fitness of Cedric Kipre before a ball was kicked at Stoke last time out, Corberan anxious about who to select in the heart of defence consequently.

Kipre managed to start against the Potters without any more bruises being sustained thankfully, putting in a valiant display in the process with six successful duels on top of making six clearances.

The integral Baggies number four will more than likely line up to face off against Rotherham next time out therefore, eager to help his team pick up a clean sheet and win.

5 LB – Conor Townsend

Conor Townsend will also find he's still in his manager's first-team plans for the game tomorrow, having put in a solid if unspectacular shift against Stoke.

The 31-year-old would lackadaisically give up possession 26 times in the entertaining draw, but was still defensively switched on with three clearances and two tackles managed.

Therefore, Corberan could excuse his experienced defender's lacklustre time of things on the ball if he can help shore up the back four against the Millers on the way to three points being clinched.

6 CM – Okay Yokuslu

West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu.

Although Corberan could disrupt the back four by making changes here and there, the Spaniard will keep trusted holding midfielder Okay Yokuslu in his XI for the visit of Rotherham.

The Baggies number 35 wasn't at his best in the Stoke draw – amassing just 26 touches of the ball from a forgettable 70 minutes – but his replacement in Yann M'Vila isn't exactly banging down the door to replace him off his own display.

The 33-year-old wouldn't win a single duel from his lacklustre 20-minute showing, compared to Yokuslu's impressive four. Moreover, Yokuslu's steel and grit shone through even more with four successful tackles managed.

7 CM – Alex Mowatt

Alex Mowatt was quiet last match alongside Yokuslu, with the former Leeds man knowing he will have to be more adventurous and creative against Rotherham from the get-go.

Only notching up one key pass in the draw at Stoke, if Mowatt can reach his peak against a Rotherham side who have been known to concede goals for fun, the 29-year-old midfielder could have a field day cutting open the Millers with killer ball after killer ball.

8 RM – Jed Wallace

Jed Wallace will remain down the right-hand flank at the Hawthorns tomorrow night, having netted his side's second goal of the afternoon last game before Stoke mounted a comeback.

Away from just that strike, the cool head of Wallace did fade in and out of the contest. But, his strike alone should be enough for Corberan to play him against Rotherham.

9 CAM – Grady Diangana

Grady Diangana for West Brom

Grady Diangana is excelling playing in the number ten spot for Corberan's promotion-chasers recently, moved there after a season of hit-and-miss performances played out on the wing.

Assisting the opening strike at the Potters, Diangana would also prove to be a nuisance with many a surge forward which resulted in the Baggies number 11 being fouled four times.

Rotherham manager Leam Richardson will fear that the former West Ham United attacker could cause the Millers all sorts of bother if on top form, especially if the South Yorkshire side are feeling charitable at the back having already been relegated.

10 LM – Mikey Johnston

Mikey Johnston

Mikey Johnston would score after being found by Diangana in the 2-2 draw, taking his West Brom goals total to a magnificent seven strikes from just 13 second-tier contests.

Johnston won't just settle for these numbers now, however, looking to score again versus Rotherham tomorrow.

IPL payday in limbo, Cummins eyes Australian summer

Australia vice-captain believes international cricket should take precedence over IPL if travel restrictions are lifted worldwide

Daniel Brettig03-Apr-2020Pat Cummins’ AU$3.17 million contract with Kolkata Knight Riders may be enough reason for him to want this year’s IPL to go ahead. But the Australian vice-captain has admitted that international cricket should take priority over the world’s richest domestic league should health and travel restrictions from the COVID19 pandemic be relaxed in time to allow the calendar to resume later this year.Wouldn’t want to play if can’t shine ball – Cummins

Pat Cummins believes it would be a bridge too far to expect bowlers to play the game – particularly in its long form – without being able to use saliva to shine the ball as a heath precaution during the coronavirus pandemic. Cummins revealed the Australian team had discussed the balance between taking precautions and not compromising the game’s integrity before their ODI against New Zealand at an empty SCG, shortly before the spread of the virus brought global sport to a shuddering halt.
“If it’s at that stage where we’re that worried about spread of risk it’s probably… I’m not sure we’d be playing sport and bringing ourselves out of isolation if we were that worried about it still,” Cummins said. “It’s a tough one; it’s actually something we spoke about before the SCG game against New Zealand, the one-dayer, we made it clear we’re obviously really keen to play, but if we’re going to have to have things in play that really change the way we play the game then … we don’t want to break the integrity of how we’ve played in the past.
“So we’ll see. I find that pretty unlikely but obviously so many things around the world are changing, so you never know. Changing celebrations and the way we interacted [against New Zealand] but the way we shined the ball didn’t change. Obviously different with red ball. As a bowler I think it would be [a] pretty tough going if we couldn’t shine the ball in a Test match.”

Australia is due to host the men’s Twenty20 World Cup in October and November, before a lucrative Indian tour that follows. Cricket Australia (CA) have reportedly drawn up scenarios for the 2020-21 season that feature losses of 25%, 50% or 100% of projected revenue, while also seeking a $200 million line of credit from banks to be used if required. These plans suggest not only the possibility of Cummins’ IPL deal being placed on hold by global events, but also a significant pay reduction for the players under their revenue share model with CA.”There are so many scenarios. It always seems to change. I guess the lucky thing is we have time on our hands here in Australia with cricket,” Cummins said. “The World Cup is still six months away, at least seven months away, and the big Indian tour is still 8-9 months away. So lots of things can change. Imminently, obviously the IPL, the Bangladesh tour and the one-dayers over in England are the ones that we are probably more focused on at the moment.”I guess the lucky thing is, coming off so much cricket, we feel like it won’t take too long to get up to speed again. So just trying to tick things over at the moment. Yeah, be really open-minded that things might change and they might change pretty quickly so just being aware of it, I think this year’s going to look very different to what we’ve seen before.”Obviously, we got some word through last week about contracts to say with so many unknowns, the CA are just going to delay that by a couple of weeks than what they’d normally do. It was three years ago that in our MOU negotiations players wanted to make it clear that we wanted to be partners in the game, and sharing in the upsides and exactly the same as in moments like these. We’ll take some of that pain if things don’t quite go right.”BCCI

As for how the crammed intentional calendar can be adjusted for the time being lost, Cummins was clear that something would likely have to give. Though he has plenty of desire to fulfill his IPL deal, Cummins said the T20 World Cup and looming Test series towards the back end of the world championship would need to take priority.”The T20 World Cup is something we’ve spoken about for the best part of two or three years,” he said. “Here in Australia to play a home World Cup, we know the ODI World Cup in 2015, that was absolutely a career highlight for me and I wasn’t even playing. I’d love to see that go ahead. That’s the big tournament this year for international cricket.”I’d love for that to happen in a perfect world and if I was to be really greedy, I’d love for the IPL to happen as well. But just wait and see…Test cricket, that’s the pinnacle for cricket. Hopefully we can play as much of that as possible but there’s so many more much bigger things at play. It’s all out of our hands.”Cummins has maintained daily contact with Knight Riders as all IPL clubs wait for further clarification after the tournament was initially delayed until April 15 by the BCCI. That decision predated a national state of lockdown to limit the spread of coronavirus, with strict international travel restrictions also imposed.”They obviously haven’t cancelled it or anything like that yet. It’s still a bit of a holding pattern, so we’re in contact with our teams every few days,” Cummins said. “And obviously everyone is still really keen for it to go ahead, but the priority is to minimise risk of it spreading and everything else.”Everybody is still really confident and hopeful it’ll be played at some stage. But obviously it’s going to be pretty tight, I think the [Indian] travel ban is in place until April 14 so I don’t expect anything too soon to happen. I mean obviously the preference would be to be over there playing, but I think the silver lining is we do get a bit of a break.”We’re lucky in cricket, that it’s right at the end of the season. We’ve played basically our whole season out, except for the last couple of games, and we’re always looking for those small breaks to refresh. So at the moment we’re just trying to – that’s been the emphasis from the coaches and the staff, this is kind of our rest period anyway – if we weren’t going to IPL.”So just trying to have a bit of a refresher at the moment then obviously we’ll play it by ear in terms of what’s ahead. But it almost feels like the start of an off-season at the moment, albeit we’re all training by ourselves at home rather than going to the team gym.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe eyes "breathtaking" manager to replace ETH at Man Utd

da 888casino: Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly not ruled out the idea of replacing Erik ten Hag with a "breathtaking" manager at Manchester United this summer, according to a key update.

Man Utd manager latest

da bet sport: Ten Hag has been under pressure throughout this season, with results and performances in the Premier League not good enough, while Champions League elimination came in the group stage.

In fairness to the Dutchman, last weekend's stunning 4-3 win at home to Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals has given him some leeway, but it would still be a surprise if potential successors weren't being looked at should Ratcliffe feel the need to make a big decision in the summer.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is one potential candidate for the job, with the 44-year-old impressing at the Amex Stadium, getting them into Europe and playing an attractive brand of football along the way. England boss Gareth Southgate has also emerged as a target for the Red Devils, with his relationship with likely new sporting director Dan Ashworth, formerly of the FA, a strong one.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann remains one of Europe's most highly thought-of young coaches, and he has also been linked with being Ten Hag's replacement at the end of the season. He is expected to leave his current role after Euro 2024 this summer, at which point he could be keen to get another job immediately.

Ratcliffe eyeing "breathtaking" Ten Hag replacement

According to a fresh update from ESPN, Ange Postecoglou could be an option for Manchester United this summer should Ten Hag be sacked.

The Australian only became Tottenham manager last year, but Ratcliffe is reportedly keen to be as "ambitious as possible with his appointments to key positions", and the idea of Postecoglou coming in has "not been ruled out".

Ange Postecoglou

The 58-year-old is an intriguing option for United this summer, having impressed greatly in his first season at Spurs, catching the eye with his style of play but also getting his side in a good position to finish in the top four. He won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic in 2021/22 and 2022/23, showing that he knows how to get over the finish line, and United legend Gary Neville has lauded him, saying:

"What he has done in such a short period of time is quite staggering because he has not only implemented what would be an idea of play, he has put something in place that is breathtaking to watch, that actually is quite complex when you watch it from a football point of view."

Meanwhile, Owen Hargreaves hailed the "beautiful attacking football" that Postecoglou played at Celtic in the past, further showing how highly he is rated by many. He also carries himself with class, which could also appeal to Ratcliffe, and while Spurs are a big club in their own right, the lure of the United job could be huge.

It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will still be manager at Old Trafford come next season, but Ratcliffe will likely have made his decision already, and a change of boss could make sense after an up-and-down campaign.

Burnley now enter race to sign new winger for Parker as talks intensify

da betsson: Burnley have “entered the fray” in the race to sign a young midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to a new update regarding the Clarets’ upcoming business.

Burnley preparing for Premier League return

da casino: After the joy of sealing promotion from the Championship back to the Premier League this season, Scott Parker will know the importance of the club bringing in top-quality players ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

In fact, the Burnley manager has gone into some depth as to how he hopes the summer window will pan out, with the club needing to be shrewd in the market:

“We’d like to be, of course. We’ll be searching, we’ll be in the market. At the same time, we’ve got an incredible squad here that has absolutely given me and this football club absolutely everything. We’ll try and be clever, we’ll try and improve where we can improve, but again, we probably won’t really have a clear idea until we actually know what the market is and where the market is for everything.”

The fact that all three promoted sides have gone straight back down to the Championship in the past two Premier League seasons highlights the gulf that now exists between the top flight and the second tier, again highlighting the need for reinforcements at Burnley.

Burnley enter race to sign 18 y/o winger

According to Africa Foot [via Sport Witness], Burnley have “entered the fray” to sign TP Mazembe winger Faveurdi Bongeli this summer.

The 18-year-old is a wanted man currently, with Crystal Palace among those named as possible suitors, and the report states that talks have intensified, albeit not stating which exact clubs are in discussions with him.

Bongeli isn’t yet a household name, considering he is such a young player and isn’t plying his trade in one of Europe’s top leagues, but that’s not to say he won’t be a strong addition for Burnley.

At just 18 years of age, the winger has already won three caps for DR Congo’s Under-20s, ahead of what could be a good international career at senior level, and he has made four appearances for the first team at his current club.

Burnley need to be focusing on both long-term signings and immediate additions in the summer, with Parker knowing that he needs some individuals who can go straight into his squad as proven Premier League footballers.

That said, it is also vital that the Clarets don’t simply focus on the present and ignore young talent, which is where Bongeli coould come into play.

The teenage attacker clearly wouldn’t be signed as someone who would be in the starting lineup on the opening day of next season, but he could develop into a top player over time, either enjoying time in Burnley’s youth team to begin with, or potentially even heading straight out on loan for a year.
