OPORTUNIDADES….

No entanto, a arbitragem marcou impedimento e anulou o tento.

Aston Villa now tempted to bid for 21-goal PSG target who’ll cost just £40m

da supremo: Aston Villa could now be tempted to bid for a £40 million Paris-Saint Germain transfer target, coming after his fine 21-goal haul in all competitions last season.

Emery seals five new signings in busy summer for Villa

da cassino: There has been plenty of movement at Villa Park in the early weeks of this transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, as club footballing president Monchi and NSWE work their way around PSR restrictions.

Pole position: Aston Villa leading Liverpool in race to sign £40m+ gem

The Midlands side announced a near-£120 million loss for the 2022/2023 season in their latest set of financial accounts, and have worked to balance the books by selling star midfielder Douglas Luiz, young homegrown ace Tim Iroegbunam and the out-of-favour Morgan Sanson for a total of around £54 million (Transfermarkt).

Luiz joined Juventus for £42 million, with Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea moving in the opposite direction at a rate of £19 million – gifting Villa boss Unai Emery with two fresh faces whilst allowing the club to make a £23 million profit off the deal (The Athletic).

Samuel Iling-Junior

Lewis Dobbin

Enzo Barrenechea

Iroegbunam joined Everton in a £9 million move, while Sanson headed back to his homeland with Nice for around £3 million. This has allowed Villa to register a net spend of just £17 million, with the signings of Iling-Junior, Barrenechea, Lewis Dobbin, Ross Barkley and Ian Maatsen setting the club back £72 million.

While reports have suggested that Villa are still expected to make further summer sales, and may have to raise around £100 million, NSWE and Monchi have navigated this window in smart fashion as they attempt back Emery.

After winning the Premier League race for fourth last season, Villa will be playing Champions League football for the first time since the 1980s, so Emery will need both quality and strength in depth.

Unai Emery

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville, who could be on the move due to the Yorkshire side's own need to sell players, is apparently of interest. Aston Villa have been targeting Summerville as an option to add more attacking impetus, according to some reports, coming after a campaign where he racked up 21 goals in all competitions under Daniel Farke.

Aston Villa tempted to bid for Summerville as Leeds set asking price

According to Football Insider, that interest hasn't waned, and Emery's men are in among the growing number of suitors for Leeds' star forward. Aston Villa could be tempted to bid for Summerville as Leeds set a £40 million asking price, with Liverpool, Brighton and Crystal Palace also eyeing up a swoop for the Dutchman.

Further abroad, Summerville has a prestigious suitor in Ligue 1 champions PSG, who are looking to replace Kylian Mbappe after the France superstar's move to Real Madrid, and are in pole position for the Leeds star.

While the 22-year-old does not actually have an official release clause in his deal, as per FI, it is believed £40m will be enough to prise him away from the Championship.

Tash Farrant, Marizanne Kapp share seven wickets as Invincibles scrap into final

Invincibles produce magic moments in the field to defend below-par total

A stunning bowling performance from Tash Farrant sent Oval Invincibles into Saturday’s Women’s Hundred final against Southern Brave.Farrant’s tournament-best 4 for 10 off 19 deliveries put her top of the wicket-takers’ list with 18 and allowed Invincibles to defend what looked like a below-par total in the Eliminator against Birmingham Phoenix, who lost their last six wickets for 13 runs. Phoenix captain Amy Jones top-scored for her side with 35 off 25 balls and shared a 52-run partnership with Erin Burns but it was all in vain with Farrant’s hand in both dismissals, including a brilliant catch to account for Burns amid a near-flawless showing in the field by the home side.Marizanne Kapp played an excellent supporting role to Farrant in Invincibles’ hour of need, top-scoring with a run-a-ball 37 and taking 3 for 21.Having won the toss and elected to bowl first, the Birmingham side’s ability to take wickets at key moments ensured Invincibles’ innings never really got going. Indeed, it looked like the home side would struggle to post a triple-figure total for only the second time in the tournament but in back-to-back matches after they were bowled out for 85 in a 30-run defeat at the hands of Southern Brave on Monday. After just 17 balls, Invincibles had lost both their leading run-scorers to that point, captain Dane van Niekerk and Georgia Adams, with just 15 runs on the board. Teenager Alice Capsey leap-frogged Adams into second place on that list with 26 off 20 balls and her 54-run partnership with Kapp gave their bowlers something to defend.Phoenix, without opener Shafali Verma who has returned to India ahead of their tour to Australia, started brightly enough but once Jones – who had looked in excellent touch striking six fours – fell to Farrant’s bowling, their run-chase fell away swiftly.Doff your Kapp
Kapp came in with her side in terrible trouble at 15 for 2 and things didn’t look much brighter when Fran Wilson – reaching double figures for just the third time in eight innings – fell for 21 off 17. But Kapp, who had missed a large chunk of Invincibles’ campaign through injury, lifted them off the floor with her battling knock and fifty stand with Capsey. Then, with Invincibles staring down a big task to defend such a middling total, Kapp struck twice in six balls to keep them in it. Katie Mack, who moved up the order to replace Verma, fell third ball when Kapp lured her in with a full outswinger and drew an edge that went through to keeper Sarah Bryce. Then, having waited until the 13th ball of the innings to face her first delivery, opener Eve Jones fell immediately when Kapp found another edge which Bryce took well low to the ground.Amy Jones struck the first ball she faced off Kapp to the boundary through the off side and in no time she helped herself to two more off Shabnim Ismail and Kapp, as Phoenix looked to make good use of the Powerplay in a small chase.Tash magic
To top off Kapp’s contribution, Farrant produced a piece of sheer brilliance in the field to give Kapp her third wicket from just 15 deliveries. Having put on 52 runs with Amy Jones, Burns lifted Kapp wide of extra cover and Farrant, running from mid-off launched herself to her left to pluck the ball from the air, letting out a huge roar in celebration as she leapt to her feet.Returning to the attack on the very next ball, Farrant then claimed the prize wicket of Amy Jones, her slower ball enticing a drive which went straight to extra cover, where van Niekerk claimed a straightforward catch. With Phoenix needing 49 off as many balls, Invincibles had a spring in their step as Jones sat stony faced, her helmet still on, in the dugout.van Niekerk claimed a much more difficult chance, not quite on the scale of Farrant’s but sharp all the same and no less important, with an excellent return catch to dismiss Marie Kelly, who had struck the ball hard back at the bowler. When Farrant deceived Gwen Davies with another slower ball that went straight up above Bryce, the keeper collected, making up for dropping Burns on 16 in possibly the only blemish on Invincibles’ otherwise immaculate fielding for the day. Then Capsey chimed in with a wonderful caught-and-bowled, taking the ball high above her head to remove Georgia Elwiss. But the best was yet to come for Invincibles’ cause when Farrant claimed the final two wickets in the space of three balls. She had Emily Arlott comfortably caught by Ismail at long on and then it was Kapp who caught Kirstie Gordon smartly at cover to seal victory and best bowling figures for the tournament for Farrant.

Man City gifted chance to sign "fantastic" £195k-p/w star who Haaland loves

da dobrowin: Looking to win a fifth consecutive Premier League title, Manchester City have reportedly been gifted the chance to sign an attacking reinforcement who Erling Haaland is a big fan of.

Man City transfer news

da spicy bet: Just how you improve a side who are attempting to win the Premier League for a fourth title in a row is a question that only Pep Guardiola knows the answer to this summer. And that answer may well include both Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, with both Bayern Munich stars already linked to The Etihad this summer. By the beginning of the next campaign, of course, both midfielders could be entering as Euro 2024 winners with Germany.

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala.

it's at the Euros in their home country that Musiala has particularly thrived, scoring twice in three games to steal the headlines as many predicted he would. Such a talent is made to play for the very best and Manchester City are exactly that, so much so that they've reportedly been offered a Premier League rival.

According to TeamTalk, Manchester City have been gifted the chance to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United by Sir Jim Ratcliffe this summer. The Red Devils' minority owner has reportedly made the same call to Chelsea and Arsenal, with all three clubs now in a position to make a decision in the coming months.

Man City now one of the only clubs £315,000-a-week star is willing to join

Pep Guardiola absolutely adores him.

ByCharlie Smith Jun 26, 2024

City, of course, know all about Sancho given that he initially left their academy to join Borussia Dortmund, before beginning a nightmare spell at Manchester United. Since enjoying a more resurgent spell back on loan at Dortmund, Sancho has reportedly been shown the door at Old Trafford this summer and finds himself at a career crossroads.

Whether Manchester City or, indeed, another club are prepared to splash the cash to sign Sancho and pay his reported £195k-a-week salary remains to be seen, however.

"Fantastic" Sancho needs Man City move

If Sancho could go back in time then he may well have ditched the idea of joining Manchester United altogether in favour of a City return back in 2021. Three years later and still suffering a spell to forget at Old Trafford nonetheless, the England international would likely jump at the chance to join Guardiola's winning machine in a move that former Dortmund teammate Haaland may also welcome.

Jadon Sancho for Borussia Dortmund

The star striker is a big fan of Sancho, having previously told SoccerBible via the Bundesliga's official website: "The levels of performance are so high and from the first second we just understood each other. Jadon is obviously a fantastic footballer and he can reach the very top."

Reuniting such a partnership at Manchester City could go a long way in taking the Premier League champions onto further history in both English and European football, but only if Sancho manages to rediscover the form that saw him thrive alongside the Norwegian in the first place. He's certainly one to watch this summer, as he looks to leave Manchester United on a permanent basis.

CSA begins hearings on racial discrimination within the game

The Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) hearings will run till July 23, with 58 submissions to be heard

Cricket South Africa’s Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) hearings on racial discrimination in the game began on Monday and will run until July 23, with 58 submissions set to be heard. In his opening address, SJN ombudsman Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza confirmed he had received 11 submissions from what he termed “scene-setters,” including administrators and officials, 23 from players past and present, and 24 from cricket unions and other interested parties. Ntsebeza will submit a report to CSA before September 30 with recommendations to prevent future instances of prejudice.Related

The hearings were initially due to be held in May but were postponed after concerns about the process were raised by, among others, David Becker, who acts as counsel for CSA’s director of cricket Graeme Smith and anti-corruption chief Louis Cole, and because Ntzebeza was otherwise engaged at the African Human Rights Court in Tanzania. The SJN Project was initiated by CSA’s former board, who resigned in October last year, but has been picked up by the new board which was appointed last month, and hope to use the SJN as a springboard for introspection and change.”CSA fully supports the SJN initiative. We regard it as one of the most important and significant projects to be undertaken in the 30 years of our existence as a unified cricket body,” Lawson Naidoo, CSA board chair, said in his address at the opening of the hearings on Tuesday morning. “The start of these hearing provides a key reset moment for CSA and cricket in general, an opportunity to address the past failures.”Ntsebeza acknowledged that his task is to guide the process of “truth and truth-telling, healing and reconciliation in cricket,” and quoted James Baldwin in explaining the pressing need for South Africa, a country governed by legalised racial segregation until 1994, to address the social issues of the past. “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it’s faced,” Ntsebeza said. “This is a quote from James Baldwin, which speaks to the purpose the SJN Project.”The hearings will include testimonies from those who have suffered racial discrimination, either by written statement on affidavit or oral statement under oath and any implicated person or party will be given notice and afforded an opportunity to respond. The terms of reference of the SJN allow for Ntsebeza to ask for cross-examination at his own discretion and do not require him to resolve any disputes of fact. “The SJN proceedings are not a criminal enquiry and as a result, I will use the civil standard of proof in making my findings. I will make findings based on a balance of probabilities, provided that where a factual dispute cannot be resolved without cross-examination, I may either allow cross-examination, limited cross-examination, or record the factual dispute without resolving it,” Ntzebeza said.CSA will not be involved at any stage of the proceedings, apart from providing administrative and technical assistance.”Our role as the board is to be good listeners, with an open mind and without preconceived ideas. We have much to learn from this, which will inform our future strategy and interventions,” Naidoo said. “It is not the intention of the board of CSA to comment publicly during the ongoing process of these hearings, on the evidence that will emerge. Instead, we will allow the process to take its course without our comment and then consider the ombudsman’s report when it is provided to the board at the end of September. This approach will protect the independence, autonomy and integrity of this project.”No former players are scheduled to appear this week but cricket historian and former Western Province CEO Andre Odendaal, former sports minister Ngconde Balfour and researcher Dr Mary Ann Dove, who completed doctoral work into socio-ecological factors in talent development, are all on the list to testify. All hearings will be available to the public, via a YouTube channel.

Serbia 0-1 England: Player ratings from Three Lions’ Euro 2024 opener

da roleta: Well, that was all rather stressful, wasn't it? England started their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win over Serbia but the overall performance wasn't too complete.

da imperador bet: The Three Lions started in brilliant fashion, Jude Bellingham crashing home a Bukayo Saka cross. It just had to be him.

It looked a fluid XI selected by Gareth Southgate but England quickly fell into their shell and were starved of the ball in the second half.

They lost control and to their credit, Serbia were far better in the second period. Still, the Serb's couldn't fashion too many chances of note and Southgate's side were able to see the game out.

Three points is all that matters at this stage, though, and hopefully they'll take some key learnings from how the second half played out in Gelsenkirchen.

So, how did the players rate during the competition's opener?

Jordan Pickford – 6

Didn’t have a lot to do with regards to making saves besides a superb stop to deny Dusan Vlahovic late on. Will need to be better on the ball throughout the rest of the tournament; some rather hit-and-hope long balls at times.

Kyle Walker – 6

Didn’t have much to do defensively and failed to offer much of an out ball on the right as Serbia pegged England back. Did have one rampage forward in the first half but fired wide.

John Stones – 6

A steady display from the central defender. Vital that England keep him fit.

Marc Guehi – 7

An excellent tournament debut from the Crystal Palace centre half. In the first half he completed 100% of his passes and won 100% of his defensive duels.

Kieran Trippier – 5

A difficult night for the Newcastle man playing out of position. Didn’t do anything wrong as such but England were heavily restricted on the left-hand side with a lack of flying full-back like Luke Shaw.

Declan Rice – 7

England came under a serious amount of pressure in the second half but Declan Rice was always there to sweep up and make some vital interventions.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

A rather indifferent game from Trent as Southgate continued his experiment of playing the Liverpool star in midfield. Some excellent passes as usual but failed to give his team much control in the second half. Hooked for Conor Gallagher in the second 45.

Jude Bellingham – 8 (MOTM)

The pick of the England bunch. Scored a stonking header on 13 minutes and easily looked a class above. Drove his team forward and tried to make plenty happen.

Bukayo Saka – 7

Unplayable in the first half, delivering the assist for the winning goal. Slowed down significantly in the second half when the Three Lions were starved of possession.

Phil Foden – 5

Not a great first outing for the Premier League’s Player of the Season at this year’s tournament. A few nice touches but ultimately didn’t give Southgate enough in the final third.

Harry Kane – 4

Starved of service but this was a pretty dismal display from England’s captain. Managed just two touches in the first half and only had one chance of note, a strong header that was pushed onto the bar.

Subs: Conor Gallagher – 6

Gave England more energy in the middle of the park but didn’t have a huge amount to do.

Jarrod Bowen & Kobbie Mainoo – N/A

Not enough time to really make an impact in proceedings. Good to see both make their tournament debuts.
