The New Zealander will join the team on their ongoing tour of Australia

Mark Coles is back as head coach of the Pakistan women’s team, and will join the squad on their ongoing tour of Australia. The New Zealander takes over the responsibility from interim head coach Saleem Jaffar, who was originally working as the team’s bowling coach with fellow former Pakistan men’s international Taufeeq Umar as batting coach. The PCB, under a new management committee headed by Najam Sethi, has roped Coles in on a one-year contract. He previously served as head coach from 2017 to 2019, when he resigned from the role citing family commitments.Related

“I have worked with Mark and he is a perfect coach for a women’s team – gentle but firm, friendly but strict,” Sethi, told ESPNcricinfo. “He is a well-respected coach and in his previous stint with Pakistan he worked incredibly hard for the team’s progress. Players only had good words to say about him, hence we have decided to bring him back and he will be joining the team in Australia with immediate effect.”The PCB has been functioning under Sethi ever since the government removed ex-chair Ramiz Raja and his board by revoking the 2019 constitution the PCB was operating under and giving the Sethi-led 14-member committee full executive powers to work on reviving the constitution of 2014.Pakistan are presently in Australia for a series of three ODIs starting January 16, which are part of the 2022-25 Women’s Championship. It will be followed by a series of three T20Is, following which the team will travel to South Africa for the Women’s T20 World Cup – where Pakistan are in Group 2 along with England, India, Ireland and West Indies. Pakistan play their opening game against India on February 12 in Cape Town. Pakistan have never gone past the group stage of the T20 World Cup; in the 2020 edition, they won only one game, against West Indies, and lost to England and South Africa; their fixture against Thailand was washed out.Coles was first appointed in 2017, on a trial basis, ahead of a series against New Zealand in the UAE, as part of the PCB’s efforts to revamp women’s cricket and bring in a professional structure. Until then, the PCB had brought in coaches on a series-by-series basis and had even gone into their previous 50-over World Cup, earlier that year, with Sabih Azhar only a few weeks into his job. Coles was offered a long-term contract but Sethi resigned in 2018, and a year later Coles resigned to focus on his family responsibilities.Months later he joined the Japan Cricket Association as a high-performance manager in 2020, and he has since worked with the Vanuatu Cricket Association and been a high-performance manager with the women’s teams of Western Australia and Wellington. He won a domestic T20 title in 2013 with Wellington Blaze. His last coaching job was with the Scotland women’s team, from February 2021 to February 2022.In his term with Pakistan, Coles led the women’s team to seven wins in 16 ODIs, including a first-ever series victory over West Indies in 2019, and 12 wins in 30 T20Is. Between Coles’ resignation and return, the core of the team hasn’t changed drastically, with captain Bismah Maroof set to welcome back her former coach.Pakistan have already named their squads for the Australia tour and the Women World Cup, with fast bowler Diana Baig leading Pakistan’s bowling pack in both ODIs and T20Is. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal, who emerged during Coles’ previous term, has developed to become an automatic choice in both formats. Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the T20 Asia Cup in Bangladesh this October, and beat their arch-rivals India in a thriller after they lost to Thailand earlier in the tournament.
da heads bet: Chelsea moved to within two points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
da brwin: The Reds still have a game in hand over them but it does show that the Blues are right up there and are in the title race as it stands, thanks to their fantastic form this season.
Enzo Maresca, who joined from Leicester City in the summer, has only lost two of his 16 Premier League matches with the London giants to date.
Chelsea are also four points ahead of Arsenal in third place and seven points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City in fifth, which speaks to how consistent the West London side have been.
Whilst winning the Premier League title would be the ultimate dream for this season for the Blues, achieving a Champions League place would also be a success, as they are currently competing in the Conference League – two steps down from the premier European competition.
A 2-1 win against Brentford at the weekend furthered their cause, and there were a number of strong performers on the pitch for Maresca against the Bees.
Chelsea's top performers against Brentford
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was crucial to the three points with three saves from four shots on his goal, preventing 0.73 xG despite Bryan Mbuemo’s late goal.
Malo Gusto, who continues to shine in the absence of Reece James, put in a fantastic performance at right-back. The French whiz created two chances, made three tackles and interceptions combined, and made one block – showing quality in and out of possession.
Tosin Adarabioyo stepped up in place of the injured Wesley Fofana and provided a dominant presence at the back. He won nine of his ten duels, including all seven of his aerial contests, to dominate the Brentford attackers, and was unlucky not to stop Mbuemo in the 90th minute.
There was also a fourth Premier League assist of the season for Enzo Fernandez, who provided the through ball to set Nicolas Jackson away to score the second, and ultimately winning, goal.
The Argentina international has now produced three goals and seven assists in his last seven appearances for the Blues in all competitions, which shows that he has been in fantastic, influential, form at the top end of the pitch.
Market Movers
Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?
Another player who caught the eye with a strong display in the final third for Maresca’s side was right winger Noni Madueke, who thrived against the Bees.
Noni Madueke's performance against Brentford
The England international came in for the suspended Pedro Neto and grasped his opportunity with both hands, putting in an excellent performance on the flank.
In a hard-fought first-half from both sides, it was the left-footed wizard’s sumptuous cross that found the head of Marc Cucurella to open the scoring just before the break. He shifted the ball to his left foot on the right wing and whipped in a teasing delivery that was perfect for the full-back to guide into the bottom corner.
Noni Madueke for Chelsea
Madueke, who played the full 90 minutes, completed 94% of his attempted passes in total and created two chances for his teammates, recording one assist.
The former PSV star failed to get himself on the scoresheet but was a constant threat at the top end of the pitch, with seven shots on goal, two of which were on target.
Madueke was one of the stars of the show for Chelsea in the win over Brentford, and his form in the Premier League this season shows that he is capable of stepping up when they need him.

As you can see in the table above, the English maestro has averaged roughly a goal or an assist every other match, which speaks to his quality in the final third.
He has not consistently provided a threat as a goalscorer, or as a creator, but has consistently chipped in with a goal or an assist to help the team out, and has plenty of time to develop further over the months and years to come.
Noni Madueke is similar to £100m Premier League star
Maresca could hit the jackpot with Madueke by helping him to fulfill his potential, as his performances have already led to comparisons with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
Per FBref, the Egypt international is one of the most similar players to the Chelsea whiz from a statistical perspective this season, alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka and Mohammed Kudus.
As you can see in the chart above, Madueke and Salah thrive in similar areas of the game and both excel, statistically, at generating non-penalty xG and Expected Assisted Goals per 90, which shows that they are both constant threats in the final third.
However, the Liverpool star’s return of 13 goals and nine assists shows that the 32-year-old has the ruthless efficiency in his final action that the 22-year-old Chelsea gem is still searching for.
Salah, who was reportedly valued at £100m by the Reds in the summer, is the joint-top scorer in the Premier League and only Saka (ten) has more assists, which shows that he has been one of the best forwards in the division this season.
Madueke, who was once dubbed an “elite talent” by scout Jacek Kulig, is also a left-footed right winger who looks to make things happen by cutting inside onto his stronger foot to make things happen in the final third, but needs to find consistency in his end product.
A return of five goals and three assists in 15 Premier League matches so far is a decent, but not outstanding, showing from the England international, and there could be more to come from him when you consider his underlying numbers are not a million miles away from Salah’s.
Therefore, Maresca could hit gold for the Blues if he can work with Madueke on the training pitch to add that consistency and decision-making to his game to take the forward to the next level to be a Salah-esque £100m talent.

Captain proud of team’s selflessness and resilience in overcoming sickness and pitch
Andrew Miller05-Dec-20221:33
‘This is how Tests should be played’ – Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes hailed the selflessness of his reinvigorated England team after an extraordinary performance in the first Test in Rawalpindi, in which they overcame a bout of pre-match sickness, an unforgiving pitch, and some stout last-day Pakistan resistance to seal what he described as “one of England’s greatest away Test wins”.In front of a rapt crowd at the Pindi stadium, Jack Leach claimed the final wicket of Naseem Shah with roughly eight minutes of daylight still remaining, as England – in their first Test in Pakistan for 17 years – recorded only their third win in the country in 25 attempts, and their first since another famous battle in the fading light in Karachi in December 2000.”It’s just incredible,” Stokes said in the post-match presentation. “We’re pretty lost for words in that dressing room. The hard work and toil that everyone’s put in over this five days is really hitting everyone. Jimmy Anderson was saying he felt a bit emotional, so having a bloke with near enough 180 Test matches [176] feeling like that at the end of this is proof that we’ve achieved something very special this week.”Related

England stay true to their word on changing the face of Test cricket
The scenes at the end of the Test were a far cry from the chaos beforehand, with England so stricken by illness on the eve of the game that officials from England and Pakistan even met to consider a 24-hour delay to the start. In the end, a decision was made on the morning of the game to carry on as planned, but not before Will Jacks had been drafted in for a debut moments before the toss, after Ben Foakes failed to recover in time.”There’s a few things that you can plan for, but some that you can’t, which is obviously what happened to the squad a few days before the Test match,” Stokes said. “It seems a long time ago, when we were running around, wondering if we were going to start the Test match on time, so I’ve got to give the group of players a serious lot of credit for turning up a little bit under the weather.”Jacks ended up being an unexpected star with the ball, claiming six first-innings wickets after a tour-ending injury to Liam Livingstone put a greater onus on his offspin, while Ollie Pope not only fronted up with a century at No. 3, but also put in an accomplished display as the stand-in wicketkeeper, with his seven catches including a crucial one-handed take down the leg side to prise out Zahid Mahmood in the tense closing stages.”You could go through this whole Test match and point out key individuals,” Stokes added. “But what we’ve had to deal with coming in makes this one a little bit better. We’ve got some broken bodies in that changing room, but having the lads run in like that today … as a captain, it’s amazing to see. I don’t think I’ve seen a group of players who want to put their bodies on the line as much for the other 10 guys on the field.”Stokes himself, however, was instrumental to the team ethic. He put his own body on the line in a critical 11-over spell of reverse-swing on the final afternoon, and committed to the attacking fields that ensured that England maintained their remarkable record of claiming ten wickets in each of the 15 innings they have bowled since he became full-time captain. However, the collective buy-in from England’s batters was perhaps the most ringing endorsement of Stokes’ leadership, as they bought into his unrelenting attacking approach that produced an unprecedented match haul of 921 runs from 821 balls across their two innings.”I’m not going to lie, I did look quite far ahead as to how this could play out,” Stokes told Sky Sports at the close. “From day one, we were going to have to score these runs quickly. It was going to be batting error that was going to get the batsman out on this wicket, because there wasn’t any swing, wasn’t any spin. So we had to really capitalise on that fact.”And then, as the Test match went on, it was all about somehow getting the game into a position on day five, where both teams were in a position to win the game, because I think dangling a little carrot there, with that declaration, played to our favour and gave them a little sniff.”No-one batter epitomised the buy-in better than Harry Brook, who not only scored an 80-ball hundred in the first innings of his second Test, but then sacrificed an opportunity to go even better than that in the second innings, when he was bowled for 87 from 65 balls while trying to set up the game on the fourth afternoon.”Those two innings were incredible to watch,” Stokes said. “He could have cruised himself to a hundred, but we had about half an hour left until the tea break. We just sent the message out, saying put your foot down now, because we’re going to declare at tea. There was no second-guessing ourselves on that, because that’s how we wanted to go into day five. We don’t want people turning the TV off, because it might be the inevitable draw.”The selflessness that he went out there and played with… the freedom, the way he expressed his talent, was absolutely incredible. He’s one for the future. It’s always one of those difficult things, you don’t want to start talking someone up too much, but Harry’s got everything, across all formats as well. I don’t think that too many players in their second Test match have quite shown the ability of what Harry has showed there.”Stokes and Brendon McCullum celebrate England’s win•Matthew Lewis/Getty Images
After eight Tests in charge since the start of last summer, Stokes and England’s head coach Brendon McCullum have now overseen seven victories and one defeat, and each of those wins have been achieved in a thrilling, enterprising fashion that has transformed the standing of an England team that had won just one of its previous 17 up until the end of the Caribbean tour last spring.”With myself and Brendan in charge, one thing that we do is focus on ourselves more than the opposition,” Stokes said. “We were always going to look to take the positive route, whether that be with bat or ball in hand, and try not to second-guess ourselves with what the opposition is going to offer.”We know we’re a very exciting team and we wanted to come here to Pakistan, and carry on with our mantra of exciting cricket, and give ourselves the best opportunity to win a Test match. I’ve got no interest in playing for a draw, the dressing-room has no interest in playing for the draw.”And as England left the field in the fading light, Stokes added that the acclaim of the Rawalpindi crowd, who had flocked to witness a thrilling finish, made all of their endeavours worthwhile.”The crowd here this week was amazing, and I’m not going to lie, the reception that we got walking off the field as winners in Pakistan was very special. I hope that everyone in Pakistan who turned out to watch this game, appreciated the cricket that was being played, obviously not just from us, but also from Pakistan.”

da 888: There is no denying it: this season is not going to plan for Tottenham Hotspur.
da blaze casino: The North Londoners have looked incredible in some games but utterly dire in others, and over the last week, they have dropped points against Fulham, AS Roma, Bournemouth, and most recently, Chelsea.
It’s a run of results that has piled the pressure on Ange Postecoglou, and while plenty of fans are desperate for him to succeed, there are murmurings that he may not get the chance.
In fact, even before the devastating loss to Chelsea, reports were linking the club with another manager, someone who has already got the better of the Australian this season.
Postecoglou's Spurs career
Tottenham made the shock decision to appoint Postecoglou in the summer of 2023, and while there were plenty of detractors at the time who claimed his success with Celtic wouldn’t translate, it didn’t take long for him to start impressing fans and pundits alike.
For example, they went undefeated in their first ten league games and were actually sitting in first place for the October international break.
However, in their 11th league game of the season, they lost 4-1 at home to Chelsea, in a game that saw James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven come off injured, and Cristian Romero receive a red card.
That result saw the North Londoners’ campaign turn entirely on its head, and by the time the final whistle was blown in game week 38, they had fallen to fifth place, with a record of 20 wins, six draws, 12 losses, a goal difference of just 13 and 66 points – 25 off Manchester City in first.
Unfortunately, while some hoped that a fresh start this season would see the team return to their pre-Chelsea form of last year, that has not happened.

Instead, Postecoglou’s side now sit in 11th, on 20 points, with six wins, two draws and a staggering seven defeats to their name already.
In other words, Tottenham have lost 19 of their 53 Premier League games under the Australian’s stewardship, and while there is undoubtedly a chance that his incredibly entertaining brand of full-throttle football could eventually turn things around, it’s no surprise that they already have a shortlist of potential replacements should they pull the plug.
Postecoglou's potential replacement
So, according to a report from Football Transfers, Spurs have shortlisted Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna as their first choice to replace Postecoglou should they choose to sack the Australian.
The Northern Irishman has a strong connection to the club, as he spent time in the academy before injury forced him into retirement, then returning a few years later as a scout and then the U18 manager after that.
His success in North London saw him snapped up by Manchester United, where he spent more time as a scout and U18 manager before then earning a place as an assistant manager for Ole Gunnar Solskjær, José Mourinho, Ralf Rangnick and Michael Carrick.
However, after years of learning from some of the best in the business, the 38-year-old accepted his first senior manager job, joining League One Ipswich in December 2021.
Over the next few years, the “sensational” tactician, as John Barnes dubbed him, led the Tractor Boys on a stunning journey from the third tier right up to the Premier League in back-to-back promotions, and while they currently find themselves in the relegation zone, they’ve shown enough to indicate they could well stay up.
For example, they picked up points against Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Brighton & Hove Albion and even beat the Lilywhites 2-1 away from home just before the last international break.
Now, one added benefit to appointing McKenna is that his preferred formation of 4-2-3-1 could help the club to tighten up at the back, as a double pivot would both provide the back four with that bit more cover, as well as the two in the pivot.

Moreover, it could see Maddison unleashed in a more traditional number ten position, which would allow him to do what he does best and create incredible chances for his teammates.
Ultimately, there is a sense that as things stand, fans would still rather stick by Postecoglou and see if he can turn things around, but if the board has other ideas, McKenna could be the ideal replacement.

da pinup bet: Tottenham Hotspur were a hard team to predict last season, as in one game, they could be sensational and blow their opponents away, whereas, in the next, they could be blown away themselves.
da cassino: Unfortunately for Ange Postecoglou, that seems to be just as true for this season, as his side has beaten the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa but lost to Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Galatasaray.
However, while there are certainly issues with the North Londoners this season, they’re scoring goals, as their 23 in 11 games is the most out of anyone in the Premier League.

Even Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min have chipped in, although both are being outscored by a former academy gem who left just before Ange started.
Kulusevski & Son's season so far
It’s been a particularly interesting campaign for Kulsevski this season, as after a somewhat underwhelming one out on the wing last year, Postecoglou opted to move him into a midfield role on a more permanent basis, where he’s thrived.
In his 17 appearances so far, the “world-class” Swede, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has scored twice and provided five assists, and of those seven goal involvements, six of them have come with him in the middle of the park.
On the other hand, it’s been a slightly more frustrating campaign for Son so far, as injury and fitness issues have limited him to just 11 appearances.
However, when he’s been on the pitch, he has been deceivingly effective, and by this, we mean that while some of the sharpness and quick movements he was known for in the past have somewhat disappeared, he’s still scored three goals and provided three assists.
This means that despite declining all-round play, the South Korean superstar is still averaging a goal involvement every 1.83 games, which is remarkable.
With that said, both stars are being outscored by a former academy gem who left the club last year.
Spurs' former Academy gem enjoying a stellar campaign
So, the former academy gem in question is 21-year-old Romaine Mundle.
The Edmonton-born winger came up through Spurs’ youth system and was even named in the first-team squad a few times between 2021 and 2023.
However, upon refusing to sign a new deal in 2023, he left the club to join Belgian outfit Standard Liège a few days before Postecoglou officially took charge of the club.
Unfortunately for the talented winger, he did not get many chances with the first team in Belgium, so he joined Sunderland on a four-and-a-half-year deal in February of this year.
His first half-season with the Black Cats wasn’t ideal either, as in 11 games he scored just a single goal and failed to provide any assists, which left some feeling like he might not be of the level required to play in the Championship.

However, with half a year under his belt, this season has been a different story entirely as, in 16 appearances, the 21-year-old winger, whom journalist Josh Bunting described as having “bags of talent,” has scored four goals and provided two assists, meaning he’s averaging a goal involvement every 2.66 games.
Moreover, according to Transfermarkt, his value has also skyrocketed from €300k – £250k – just before he left Tottenham to €2m – £1.6m – today, which is not bad at all.
Ultimately, leaving Spurs when he did was probably the best thing Mundle could have done, as he’s now finally showing just what he can do at a big club and in a challenging league, although it would have been interesting to see how he’d have got on under Postecoglou.
